Major Capacity Expansion and Job Creation by Continental Dohányipari Zrt.

Continental Dohányipari Zrt. is implementing a new investment to expand its manufacturing and storage capacities at two locations in Hungary. The nearly EUR 40 million project will create 60 new jobs and further enhance the company’s global competitiveness.
The 100 percent Hungarian-owned, family-run company has been a key player in the domestic tobacco industry for three decades. In 1998, the company acquired the tobacco factory in Sátoraljaújhely, preserving one of the region’s most important industrial facilities. Today, Continental employs more than 900 people and ranks as the second-largest employer in the city, while its operations remain closely linked to Hungarian agriculture.
The recently completed investment, valued at EUR 38.27 million, focuses on expanding production infrastructure. In Sátoraljaújhely, Continental has established a new production hall, while in Miskolc an existing warehouse facility has been upgraded for manufacturing use, supporting long-term growth in production capacity. As part of the development, a 3,900 sqm finished goods warehouse has also been constructed at the Sátoraljaújhely site, connected to the production unit through modern logistics solutions.
In addition to significant equipment upgrades and the introduction of advanced technologies, the project also included the installation of a solar power system, which is expected to significantly reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
The investment provides a solid foundation for further expanding the company’s presence in international markets. Currently, approximately half of Continental Dohányipari Zrt.’s revenues are generated from exports, with the long-term goal of increasing this share further.
