2019. 07. 23.
AUDI HUNGARIA is to launch a comprehensive development at its Győr plant: the e-motor production capacity, started a year ago, as well as the engine development centre and the vehicle manufacturing infrastructure will all be expanded. The complex investment programme worth EUR 127 million is the first step in the preparation to the challenges triggered by electromobility, so that in addition to the combustion engine, Audi and Győr may belong among the world leaders regarding electric drivetrains as well.
AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt. with headquarters in Győr is the engine supplier for the Audi and also the Volkswagen Group, is one of the largest engine plants in the world, but the Audi TT and A3 model variants, as well as the Audi Q3 models are also manufactured here. In 2018 the total number of engines manufactured at Audi Hungaria Zrt. was nearly two million parts, which included some 10,000 electric motors. The total number of manufactured cars reached 100,000, which were delivered to 90 countries worldwide. Audi Hungaria has long been one of the largest companies in Hungary in terms of revenue and one of the largest exporters in the country. The German company currently employs over 14,000 associates in Győr, and has more than 1,000 Hungarian suppliers.
The decisive part of the e-transformation project is targeting the e-motor production expansion in Győr, and it also creates the opportunity to integrate the next generation of electric gear. Audi Hungaria has been manufacturing the electric drivetrains for one year for the first completely electric model of the brand: the Audi e-tron, hence following the traditional one, it has also become the centre of e-motor production in the Audi Group.
The competencies and capacities of technical development also get extended. In addition to the efficiency increase of traditional internal combustion engines, they also systematically develop know-how in the field of electric gears, as well as thermodynamics and vehicle applications. Furthermore, a state-of-the-art workshop equipped with new running benches and a brand new office building will also be constructed.
The volume of the considerable, comprehensive investment exceeds HUF 41 billion, which is considered as a prominent amount, even in case of such a large company. Furthermore, it is also important, that the development is also accompanied by job creation; 250 workplaces in total will be created at the company.
