The investment announced in October 2017 entered into the next phase: the foundation stone of the newest production unit, the first in Europe outside of Germany of Krones AG manufacturing beverage automats and bottling systems in Debrecen was laid. As a result of the more than EUR 49 million investment, 500 workplaces will be established over the upcoming years and production is planned to be launched in less than a year.
The German Krones AG established in 1951 designs, develops and manufactures machines and complete systems for the fields of filling and packaging technology. Their equipment is processing millions of bottles, boxes and PET containers on a daily basis, primarily in breweries, beverage factories as well as the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The concern with more than 5000 patents and 90 subsidiaries and sites is employing over 15,000 people worldwide.
As the latest station of European capacity extension the company has decided to have a Hungarian location. Good logistic connections, developed infrastructure, professionals with excellent qualifications, as well as the training opportunities provided by the university and dual technical education all favored Debrecen. The plant in Debrecen will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and highly skilled laborers and engineers will be employed in production and assembly in Hungary, same as in Germany.
Krones is considering the Debrecen unit as its second European pillar, both concerning the production of machine components and the assembly of equipment parts. Production might start in the second half of 2019 already, and the entire investment volume between 2018 and 2020 is more than EUR 49 million, however, further plans also include the relocation of certain engineering planning processes to Hungary.
