2018. 01. 23.
As a result of a comprehensive EUR 20 million development project, ContiTech Magyarország, belonging to the Continental Group, has expanded production in Nyíregyháza. The German automotive giant, one of the top 5 suppliers in the world, has started the manufacture of automotive cooling and heating pipes, installed modern caoutchouc mixture production lines, while, the air bellow manufacturing capacity increased, and the infrastructure expanded with a 2,000 m2 warehouse complex and a 4,500 m2 logistics hall.
The Hannover-based tyre manufacturing company Continental AG, with a history of more than 100 years, has become one of the world's five leading TIER-1 suppliers by now. The importance of the Group in the automotive industry is clearly demonstrated by the fact that it played a key role in the development of the technology of hybrid-powered systems in 1997. Listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Continental realised more than EUR 40 billion in sales in 2016, employing more than 220,000 employees in 55 countries. Within the Group, as the largest manufacturer in the non-tyre sector of the rubber industry, ContiTech develops and manufactures functional parts, components and systems for the automotive industry, machinery and equipment manufacturers, mining, rail transport, the printing industry and other important markets.
Continental started to establish its concerns in Hungary in 1991. Currently, it is present with 5 companies and operates 7 sites in Hungary. In addition to Nyíregyháza, it is engaged in manufacturing activities in Makó, Szeged and Veszprém, where electronics is in focus: braking systems, hybrid control panels, electric steering systems and wide range of sensors are manufactured. Employing about 8,000 employees, the company constantly develops its units in Hungary: it invested more than EUR 43 million in its concerns in Hungary in the past two years.
The recent development of the ContiTech division is part of a two-step expansion in the Makó and Nyíregyháza units, in total value of EUR 32 million. The Nyíregyháza unit receives EUR 20 million, from which it increases air bellow manufacturing capacity, starts the production of automotive cooling and heating pipes, installed modern caoutchouc mixture production lines. Infrastructure developments have also been conducted: a 2,000 m2 warehouse complex and a 4,500 m2 logistics hall are now available. The complex expansion creates 600 new jobs in total, which not only expands the production portfolio, but makes ContiTech one of the most important employers in the region.
Besides these investments, another various projects are underway: e.g. in September 2017 ContiTech opened their electronics technician class to participate in the education of these special knowledges.
